Do the time warp down Ruffin Road and feast your eyes on the neon-lighted Studio Diner. It's an authentic trip back to the '40s -- in the middle of the Kearny Mesa Business District. Wrapped in chrome, the diner is a welcome roadside stop. And, fittingly, it's set on the lot of a working movie and TV studio, Stu Segall Productions. (Remember "Silk Stalkings" and "Renegade"? Currently filming "Mythological X".)

Decorated with "behind-the-scenes" movie-making equipment and serving comfort food with an upscale vibe, Studio Diner is fun for the senses. Try our Grip Burger, a half-pound cheeseburger you might have a hard time finishing. (Low-carb dieters will appreciate being able to order their burgers "protein style," substituting buns for leaves of lettuce.) We feature from the east coast the Lobster Roll and whole belly Ipswich Clams served as an appetizer.

You'll find all the basics like grilled cheese and Reuben sandwiches, chicken pot pies and plenty for the kids, plus the diner also caters to a more discriminating taste, thank you very much, with a full range of salads and local favorites like fish tacos with house-made fire-roasted salsa.

Breakfast is just as you imagine; pancakes, eggs any style with choice of meats, seriously good eggs benedict and treats like lox and cream cheese omelets for foodies.

Don't leave without slurping a creamy, whipped cream-topped chocolate malt made using a jade-green, old-fashioned shake machine. And who knows? Maybe you'll spot a star taking a break from filming next door.

Jim -

Thanks so much for organizing our rehearsal dinner - we had a great time! My guests loved the food and our servers were great - I apologize for not remembering their names.

Thanks again for making our party great!

Deanna

Thanks Jim:  We were there last night. I had clams and my husband had the lobster roll.  We are from Maine (here in SD just 2 years) and had a “yearning” for the taste of New England.  We sat at the counter, in real Diner style.  We loved it.  Everything was great.  It’s nice to have a place where we can go and have some of our ole favorites from back home.  THEN, the guy next to us was served this huge piece of fish!!!  My husband and I checked the menu, only to find out that you have Haddock….oh my word, what a pleasant surprise.  We miss haddock so much.  It is a favorite of Mainers…..SOOOOO, we will be back again to have the Haddock, and we can’t wait.  We also want to try some of the other items on the menu.  Everything looked so good coming out of the kitchen.  For sure We will now be Regulars.

Thanks

N and D

I'm so happy to say I have visited your restaurant and was very happy w/ the food and the presentation w/ the neon lights and all (he,he).

Love how your ice cream is sugar free and it all tastes so natural. My cousin had a chicken breast sandwich and chocolate milk shake, which was delicious.
I asked the waitress about the spaghetti, I recall your web site has something called Eunick Spaugetti (or something like that), but she called it something different( Now I cant find it on your menu). So I just ordered the Sloppy Joe sandwich to be on the safe side. And I could leave before trying the Studio Poppers...loved those!!, which were so delicious!! I also had the Peach Cobbler and it was fantastic!!! I couldn't get enough of it. It truly makes a difference that the ice cream is vanilla bean, the presentation and flavor was just out of this world yummy!  Being open 24-hrs is so wonderful!

We will both come again, for sure!! I've told my coworkers!

Thanks!!

Dear Jim!
Thanks so much for the help with Ingrid's party. It turned out great and the staff was wonderful! Thank you so much. I would happily recommend the location to anyone else for an event!
Best Regards,

I just wanted to let you folks know how delighted I am with your diner.  I moved to southern California three years ago from New Hampshire and have missed the fried clams and haddock sooooo much.

I love to watch Diners, Drive Ins and Dives on the Food channel; and much to my delight, several months ago I saw the episode that showed the Studio Diner; and the fact that you fly in fresh Ipswich clams.  Many a time I had Ipswich clams in Ipswich, Essex and Gloucester. Mass. and in Plaistow, NH.

For Mother's Day today, my daughter and family drove me one hour plus to your diner.  I personally had the Sampler Plate of clams, lobster roll, haddock, crab cakes and clam chowder.  It was great!  I was much too full for the peach cobbler, but brought it home for later.  Thanks again for a great diner.  I hope to come back again sometime.
